metalcore is the best. because its the best to show people that say they hate metal. and you notice they bopping their head a bit. some dont go beyond, thats fine, some do. but for people that say metal all sounds the same and is muh devil stuff, metalcore is great to dispel that. also some songs with a nice transistion between cleans and screams is nice. dont get me wrong, slaughter to prevail is nice. but some metal like like some bands in death or black metal. where its just the same gutterals or some growls the entire time, without any change in pitch or cadence really just sucks. I say this as a guy that lists to stuff like darko us or lorna shore. I dont find the piggs and goblins

Incredibly hard question. I'd say Emperor, like you, but they have too little output to call them as such. Then I'd go with Darkthrone, but they have stopped playing black metal, and likewise too little black metal output to judge that on. Marduk I could consider, but, they have some meh tier albums in their discog to be called GOAT. Ya know what, I'm going team Taake. Satanic Warmaster and Inquisition as a honorable mention. Riffgods.

Emperor? Fine choice,cool band. I'd go for Dissection,although I listen to Gorgoroth wayyy more. But they do have several albums that aren't great.

I just want to confirm that everyone realizes these aren’t actually the same riff, right? The underlying chord changes are similar, but they’d literally have to have the same sequence of notes and syncopation to be the same riff and would sound/be identical. And that’s not the case. Cannibal corpse are the kings of death metal. Bloodbath is great too

Deathamphetamine - Exodus Adjusting the sun - Hypocrisy probably the two most original versions of that riff, i mean Exodus doesn't really sound similar, but it also does.

Melodeath bands like late Death and The Black Dahlia Murder making it sound similar but yet unique while metalcore bands just straight up ripped it off. Like a wise man once said: Metalcore are a bunch of hardcore kids covering songs from Slaughter of the Soul.
